You can also volunteer at your local food bank. Make sure to contact your food bank, as many have multiple opportunities and waiting lists for volunteers. You could transport food to different charitable agencies, repackage donated food or even do clerical work. President Obama is asking us to come together to meet growing social needs resulting from the economic downturn, and the administration has established a new initiative at Serve.gov to encourage and facilitate service in local communities. Helping fight child hunger at the local level is a meaningful way to volunteer.
On Serve.gov, you can join volunteer opportunities in your community or create your own and recruit volunteers. You can also share your story and find out what others are doing in the fight against child hunger.
