ConAgra Foods Child Hunger Corps
The ConAgra Foods Foundation is committed to building a community of people passionate about eliminating child hunger by ensuring all children have access to the food and facts they need to eat nutritiously, live balanced lifestyles and succeed in school and life. It's one of the reasons why we're partnering with Feeding America, the nation's network of food banks, to create the ConAgra Foods Child Hunger Corps. This program is just one example of our commitment to solving both immediate needs and finding long-term solutions that will address the underlying problems that lead to child hunger.
The ConAgra Foods Child Hunger Corps is a joint effort between the ConAgra Foods Foundation and Feeding America, and was established thanks to a $10 million grant* from the ConAgra Foods Foundation. The Child Hunger Corps is a group of dedicated individuals who will provide on-the-ground support in communities across America to advance child hunger programs. Child Hunger Corps members will work at local Feeding America-affiliated food banks to increase access to nutritious food in times when children need it most, while developing his or her food bank’s capacity and ability to create and implement programs that will help alleviate child hunger.
The first six members of the Child Hunger Corps will serve two-year placements starting August 2010 at the following Feeding America-affiliated food banks:
Arkansas Food Bank Network, Little Rock, Ark.
Harry Chapin Food Bank of Southwest Florida, Ft. Myers, Fla.
Houston Food Bank, Houston
Mid-Ohio Food Bank, Grove City, Ohio
Oregon Food Bank, Portland, Ore.
Southwestern Virginia Second Harvest Food Bank, Salem, Va.
*The grant also established the ConAgra Foods Hunger-Free Summer program and the new ConAgra Foods Fund to Fight Child Hunger.
