Community Organizations Receive $420,000 from ConAgra Foods Foundation to Fight Child Hunger
Omaha, Neb. – May 13, 2011 – Eleven community-based nonprofits in nine states have been selected to receive $420,000 as part of the ConAgra Foods Foundation's Community Impact Grants program. This is the second year the ConAgra Foods Foundation has awarded Community Impact Grants to local nonprofits with the goal of finding innovative approaches to addressing child hunger.
More than 325 organizations participated in a highly competitive two-step grant review process. After submitting a Letter of Interest and being selected to submit a Request for Proposal, 11 organizations were selected to receive grants to support their innovative approaches to helping fight child hunger. These programs focus on providing more families in need with better access to food, educating children about nutrition by planting community gardens and supporting research to help end child hunger
"With more than 17 million American children living in food insecure households , it means children in communities across the country face times throughout the year when they don’t know if or from where they will get their next meal," said Kori Reed, vice president, ConAgra Foods Foundation. "Through our Community Impact Grant program, the ConAgra Foods Foundation partners with local nonprofits to make a difference for these kids here, in backyards across the country, and in the process identify programs and best practices that can help more kids in the future."
The purpose of the Community Impact Grant program is to identify, invest in and support nonprofit organizations that are implementing innovative ways to combat child hunger and enhance nutrition education among at-risk populations. These are primarily communities where ConAgra Foods has a presence and/or states where more than 20 percent of children are at risk of hunger. In the second year of this initiative, the ConAgra Foods Foundation has given approximately $1 million dollars to nonprofit organizations nationally.
This year, the ConAgra Foods Foundation awarded Community Impact Grants ranging from $20,000 to $60,000. Recipients of this year’s Community Impact Grants include:
• Albuquerque Community Foundation in Albuquerque, N.M. |
